Guys: Do Not Get Carried Away With Fashion
If there's one thing men should stay away from, it's fashion. They just don't have the genetic makeup for it. That may sound like it's something coming from a 'male chauvinist pig, ' but it's true. Women are born with a fashion sense. Men are not.
If there is one exception to the guy's fashion sense rule, it may be in the area of watches. Men seem to have watch fetishes in much the same way that women have shoe fetishes. Guys really identify with their watches.
The men's sport watch is an interesting example. These watches do much more than merely tell you what time it is. Wearing a sports watch actually tells the world what sports you identify with the most. An underwater watch tells the world that you love the sea. Be a little bit careful here, though. If you wear an expensive waterproof watch, you might be labeled as a pretender. Real watermen can't afford to risk losing an expensive watch when they're out getting battered by the waves. They choose cheap ones instead.
A leather watch is a thing of beauty. Amazingly, most men seem to have an innate sense of which color and style of leather wristwatch suits them best. While the limited choices (black or brown band, silver or gold face) make their decision easier, they need to be given credit for, nine times out of ten at least, making the right decision.
Not so when it comes to shoes! Men are awful when it comes to choosing the appropriate footwear for the occasion. How could anyone think that wearing an old pair of leather brown boots would be a good idea for Sunday brunch at an elegant cafe? Do those men who do that think they're impressing anybody with their machismo? They're not - the things just look bad!
Remarkably, it is possible to make an even worse decision. Some men decide that since it's Sunday, they have a right to wear their cheap flip-flops to Sunday brunch. How embarrassed their wives or girlfriends must be when they come walking into a nice restaurant with a man who is attracting attention to his ugly feet with his noisy sandals!
Let's just skip the issue of shirts and pants altogether. Suffice it to say that if you just choose your clothes so that you'll fit in at the office, you'll be taking the safest route. You could be risking your career, your social life and even your family if you try to make an individual fashion statement.
You've only got one style option, guys: you can safely choose your own wristwatch. Other than that, leave fashion to the girls.
