Making A Home Decorating Notebook

If you have watched home decorating shows on television and have decided that it's time to begin redecorating your home, you may be wondering what to do to get started.

Start by making a decorating notebook. Gather together a three ring binder notebook, folders with pockets, dividers and notebook paper. Divide your notebook into sections by room. Use the notebook paper to make notes that come to mind.

Find some magazines that you no longer need and look through them for inspiration. Tear out photos of rooms that you like. You are only looking for ideas at this point so don't skip over things that you thing you can't afford.

Remember that you are not only looking for completed rooms that you like, but also individual pieces. If you are redecorating the nursery and you see a photo of a designer baby bedding ensemble that you want, cut it out and put it into the nursery section.

Look at the colors of the walls in the pictures, too, and keep those pictures or make a note of color schemes that fit your taste.

Look through the home decor accents available in your large retail store or your local hobby and craft shop. When you find accessories such as candles, artwork or mirrors that you like, make a note of them, their cost and the store you saw them at and put it into your notebook.

Think about your master bedroom and think about the things you already have on hand. Are you using a bedding collection that you love? If the answer is yes, look for accessories that will coordinate with pieces that you already have.

If you are going to completely remodel a room, go online and check out some of the room planners that are available. Many are free and easy to use. You may have to download some to your computer, but you should be able to save and print your plans.

By taking the time to put together a home decorating notebook, you will be able to come up with a plan and a place to start in your home. By keeping a price list in your notebook, you will no what is a good buy when you see items you are interested in. You will find the planner will help you come up with a design plan that you will love.
